Losing weight is never easy!

Losing weight can be a very difficult task. While some find it easy, others struggle and will go to extreme measures in losing those extra pounds. Knowing how the body functions will give you a greater advantage in formulating a strategy to attack the extra weight. During the last few years I had the opportunity of training people from different nationalities and cultures around the world and came across some strange philosophies on how to lose weight.

The body is by far the most incredible creation ever. For optimum function of both the physiological and emotional system the correct fuel is needed in the correct proportions and in the correct order. Over the years I have seen tremendous results with the combination diet.

The main aim of this diet is to eat your proteins and carbohydrates separately. It is important to note that different food uses different enzymes in the digestion process and that their digestion times vary. Imagine your colon as a canal where different foods have to enter and pass through to reach the bowel. As the food enters, enzymes are released to start the digestion process. When protein gets digested, acid juices are produced while with carbohydrates alkaline juices are formed. Taking both food groups in at the same time will cause a neutralising effect and a delay in the digestion process. This delay can allow for part of the food to be transformed into fat.

By separating your protein and carbohydrates will allow for the food to be broken down more effectively and for the digestive system to function at full capacity.

Proteins take on average four hours to digest whereas carbohydrates have a digestive time of about two hours. Fruit takes on average 30 minutes. The idea is to eat proteins and salads together and carbohydrates and salads. Keep your fruit separate. I do understand that it can be very difficult in today’s society to maintain a diet like this. It is important though to remember the more difficult the challenge the larger the reward.-Gerhard
